While our graduate wishes to remain anonymous, her insights and experiences provide valuable learnings for anyone interested in cyber insurance professional development.
How did you get into the Cyber Insurance Industry?
A: After completing my education, I began my professional journey with one of the largest reinsurers globally. Throughout my tenure, I have held various positions, gaining extensive experience in the industry. Most recently, I have taken on a new role as a Cyber Risk Manager, specializing in the assessment of single, large risks.
What do you consider to be a critical factor for someone working in the cyber insurance industry?
A: A critical factor for someone working in the cyber insurance industry is having a deep understanding of both cybersecurity and insurance. This includes knowledge of the latest cyber threats and attack methods, as well as an understanding of risk assessment and how insurance policies are designed to mitigate those risks.
What brought you to the Certified Cyber Insurance Professional (CCIS) course?
A: I was introduced to the Certified Cyber Insurance Specialist (CCIS) course through my manager, who had been in communication with the Cyber Insurance Academy. My manager recognized the value of the course and arranged for me to receive the necessary training. As someone working in the cyber insurance industry, I understand the importance of continually expanding my knowledge and skills in this field. Undertaking the CCIS course was a natural step in furthering my professional development.
Can you give an example of a cyber insurance case you’ve worked on and how your cyber insurance professional training with the CCIS course helped you navigate it?
A: As a Certified Cyber Insurance Specialist (CCIS), I have had the opportunity to work on various cyber insurance cases, and my training has proven to be immensely valuable in navigating these cases. For instance, my deep understanding of the terminology and correlation of the risks involved has enabled me to approach each case with a high level of confidence and expertise. This, in turn, has made my work significantly more efficient and effective, allowing me to deliver the best possible results for my clients.
What do you predict the state of the cyber insurance market will be in 3 years’ time?
A: It is likely that the cyber insurance market will continue to grow and evolve over the next three years. With the increasing frequency and sophistication of cyber attacks, businesses of all sizes are recognizing the importance of protecting themselves against potential data breaches, and cyber insurance offers a viable solution. Additionally, as more businesses shift their operations online, the demand for cyber insurance is only expected to increase, making it a key area of growth in the insurance industry.
